Barbara
Scarborough
Jun 10, 1940 — Jan 29, 2025
Barbara Lancaster Scarborough, a loving mother, grandmother, devoted wife, and cherished friend, peacefully departed this life on January 29, 2025, in Millbrook, Alabama, at the age of 84. Born on June 10, 1940, in Florala, Alabama, Barbara was a beacon of love and compassion throughout her life, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Barbara was the daughter of George and Ronalda Lancaster, who instilled in her the values of kindness, compassion, and faith in God. On September 14, 1959, she married the love of her life, Philip Scarborough and their union lasted 56 beautiful years. Philip, along with their beloved son Bret, preceded Barbara in death, leaving a profound void in her life that she carried with grace and strength.
Barbara is survived by her loving daughter, Melanie Martin (Will), who was a source of pride and joy for her. She also leaves behind two cherished granddaughters, Amanda Dickey (Keith) and Ashley Brumbeloe (Mitch). Barbara was a devoted sister to her four siblings: Rita Moseley, Rebecca Thomas, Myra Chisum (Max), and George Lancaster (Sally). In addition to her immediate family, she will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and a host of cherished friends who were blessed to know her.
Throughout her life, Barbara embodied the spirit of a nurturing caregiver. She was a loving, compassionate, and God-fearing woman who had a special place in her heart for children. Her passion for education, particularly the education of girls, drove her to share her knowledge and skills with others. She found joy in working in her yard, cooking, and sewing for her granddaughters. Known for her love of sweets and glass-bottle cokes, her home was filled with warmth and hospitality.
Barbara's legacy will live on through her family and the countless lives she touched. In honor of her love for children, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to Make-A-Wish Alabama or another children's charity of your choice.
A celebration of Barbara's life will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Hayes Funeral Home in Elba, Alabama, where family and friends are welcome to come together to remember and honor her life.
