Betty Virginia Rushing Rogers, 90, of Elba, AL, passed away from natural causes on Thursday, March 9, 2023.  Betty was living in Cumming, GA at the time of her death. Graveside services will be held in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens at 2:00PM Wednesday March 15, 2023. Visitation will be held from 12:30 PM until 1:45 PM at Hayes Funeral Home.

Betty was born January 3, 1933, in Elba. She was the fourth child of the late John Rushing, Jr. and Jessie Lee Taylor Rushing.   Betty spent her formative years on the family farm.  She was a descendant of several of the earliest pioneer settlers of Coffee County.

Betty was a graduate of Elba High School and attended Massey-Draughon Business College in Montgomery, AL.  After working in Montgomery for several years, she returned to Elba and took a job with Civil Service at Fort Rucker, AL.  She met her husband Virgil, who was an aviator and engineer, at Fort Rucker and, after they were married in 1957, they moved to Ozark, AL.  Once their children were grown, Betty and Virgil moved to Elba for their retirement.

Betty was a homemaker and active community volunteer.  She was a member of the Service League for many years.  She was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church.  She was an expert seamstress and made most of her own beautiful clothing.   She was an avid gardener and was a member of the Elba Garden Club.   She was a voracious reader and loved to visit the library and participate in the local book club.   In her retirement, she enjoyed leading a Red Hat Society Chapter and these ladies enjoyed some exciting outings together.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband -Virgil Raymond Rogers, Jr., her son -Virgil Raymond Rogers, III, her sister- Mary Argo, and her brothers - John Rushing, Mercer Rushing and Dykes Rushing.

She is survived by her daughter -Virginia (Robert) Davis, of Cumming, GA, her grandson - Reagan Davis, who is currently a student at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL, and several nieces and nephews.

A sweet, beautiful soul has left this earth and will be greatly missed.
