Bobby Franklin Johnson, age 71, a native of Enterprise, Alabama and resident of Mobile, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at USA Providence Hospital in Mobile, Alabama. Funeral services will be held at Hayes Funeral Home, Elba, Alabama, on Saturday, July 6, at 11:00 am, with Bobby's nephew, Rev. Mark Bowers, officiating. Burial will follow in the Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery with Hayes Funeral Home directing. Visitors may spend time with the family 30 minutes prior to the service beginning at 10:30 am at Hayes Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or those wishing to make memorials in memory of Bobby Johnson, are asked to donate to Prestige Supervised Community Living, Inc, c/o Robert and Gail Brown, 7054 Howells Ferry Road, Mobile, Alabama, 36618.
Bobby was a very special person. Despite his disability with Autism, he was high functioning and worked many jobs throughout his lifetime. In his younger years, he worked alongside his father in road construction as a heavy equipment operator. Later he worked in a work program through Fort McPherson, GA, called Worktech, where he worked on lawn care crews. This program existed to assist people with disabilities to have meaningful work.
Bobby had a deep love for Jesus. He loved attending church and watching his favorite pastors on TV. He loved Dr. Charles Stanley and Dr. John Hagee. One of his favorite Bible verses was from Deuteronomy 31:8, "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed."
Bobby was an avid sports fan and could answer just about any trivia question about players, coaches and games in almost any sport, especially football, basketball and baseball. He also loved martial arts movies, especially Bruce Lee movies. He had a deep love for his nieces and nephews and was always proud to see them and proud of their accomplishments.
Bobby was preceded in death by his father Joseph Franklin Johnson, and his mother Juanita McDaniel Johnson, and two sisters, Martha Joe Johnson Hicks and Katie Johnson Calloway. He was also preceded in death by beloved bother in laws, Tony Bowers (Ann), Hubert Hicks (Martha Joe), Ted Calloway (Katie), Joe Valenti (Kathie), and Stephen Halminski (Wanda).
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, three sisters, - Ann Johnson Bowers of Enterprise, AL, Kathie Johnson Valenti of Dothan, AL, and Wanda Johnson Halminski of Fernandina Beach, FL. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Bobby's family would like to thank the owners and staff at Prestige Group Home in Mobile, Alabama for taking such wonderful care of him for the past six years. The owners and staff became family to Bobby and we cannot thank them enough for the love and support they gave him.
Pallbearers will be Alan Cramer, Joseph Hicks, Kyle Hicks, David Hicks, Danny Creel, and Wesley Creel.
