Carol Jeanne Smith, a resident of the Friendship Community, passed away and reached Heaven's shores on June 6, 2026, at the age of 84.
Lovingly remembered and cherished by her children, Carol is survived by Teresa Jeanne Webb (Kent) of Bentonville, Arkansas, Evan Everett Smith, III (Cheri) of Newton, Alabama, and Christy Michelle Johnson (Jay) of Destin, Florida.
Carol, affectionately called Mimi, is also survived by her grandchildren, who each adored her- Amanda Bryan (Michael), Daniel Webb (Morgan), Evan Smith IV (Sarah), Hayley Kate Webb, Caroline Bolen (Jesse), Elizabeth Johnson, and Michael Johnson (Tyler). Mimi also celebrated the births of her great-grandchildren and passed her love to the next generation- Graham Webb, Stanton Stokes, Emery Webb, Evalynn Stokes, Palmer Webb, Mary Smith, Rowan Webb, Gabriel Bolen, and Brance Bryan.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Evan Everett Smith, Jr., her parents Charles and Jeanette Anderson, as well as her biological father Daniel Hester Varnum, and her sister Lisa Pierce. She is survived by her sister Sue Ellen Chavers, and her brother Charles Anderson, Jr.
Carol grew up in the 50s. She was Miss Pensacola Tech High, loved sock hops, and was an avid chocolate malt enjoyer. She loved music by The Platters, and saw Elvis Presley as well as Jerry Lee Lewis in concert. She also loved gospel music by the Gaithers and the Hoppers. Mimi loved music. She loved to sing, dance, and to write songs.
Author of songs and stories, Carol was a storyteller. No one was more artistic and talented than she was. Her gift was from God, and she always used it to His glory. Carol wrote countless songs praising the Lord. She also wrote and told her grandchildren her famous "Whoopie the frog" bedtime stories. Mimi passed down her love of storytelling, singing, songwriting, music, and her love of the Lord to her family.
To her children, Carol was more than a mother- though she was the world's greatest. She was a best friend. To know Carol was to love her. Her beautiful soul made life technicolor. There was no better example of a loyal wife-one who served and sacrificed for her country as a military wife-a loving, kindhearted mother, a friend who was always there to lend an ear, a woman who loved with her whole heart, and the hands and feet of Christ. Carol loved the Lord. She showed His goodness in the way that she treated others, His strength in the way she persevered, His faithfulness in the way she worshiped, and His love everyday of her life.
