Cleo Roberts Hiner, 79, of Trussville, AL departed this life Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at her home in Trussville, Alabama. Funeral services will be held from Hayes Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Ken Wilson officiating. Committal services will follow in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens cemetery. Visitation will be at Hayes Funeral Home on Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

A native of Elba, AL, Mrs. Hiner lived in Plano, TX for a number of years before moving back to Alabama. After graduating from Elba High School, Cleo worked at The Elba Clipper for many years. She attended Troy State University, where she graduated with a Master's Degree in Education. She retired after 30 years of teaching in public school systems, including the Cobb County School System for 11 years in Georgia.

Cleo joined Gold Star Wives of America, Inc. following her husband's death in Vietnam, June 1968.  She became a member of newly formed Wiregrass Chapter, Fort Rucker, AL in 1969.  After relocating to Marietta, Ga she transferred to the Dogwood Chapter, Atlanta, GA, and finally relocating to Trussville, AL she became a member of the Birmingham Chapter, Birmingham, AL.

Survivors include: Sister - Joette Roberts, Trussville, AL, Sister - Linda (Frank) Herrington, Collinsville, AL, Sister - Betty (Harold) Walker, Moody, AL, Sister-in-law - Hazel M Roberts, Marietta, GA, Nephew - Chris (Christa) Messina, Dallas, GA, Nephew - Greg Messina, Dallas, GA, Nephew - Matt Roberts, Marietta, GA, Nephew - Lee Roberts, Marietta, GA, Niece - Elizabeth (Preston) Walker, Trussville, AL, Niece - Jennifer (Michael) Arledge, Argo, AL, Nephew - Jimmy Nielsen, Ogden, UT, Nephew - Michael Nielsen, Ogden, UT, 10 great nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a deep appreciation for the care given Cleo by her longtime caregiver Jessica Tafoya.

Mrs. Hiner was preceded in death by her Husband – Franklin Hiner, Parents Joseph and Luna Roberts, Brother – Leo Roberts, and longtime companion Nicholas Thomas.
