George W. Hookey, 82, was born on May 13, 1943, to Overton and Margaret Hookey in Brazil, Indiana. A lifelong learner and educator, he graduated from Indiana State University in Terre Haute with a bachelor's degree in Education and later earned a master's degree from IUPUI in Indianapolis.

In 1963, George moved to Noblesville, Indiana, where he began what would become a lifelong calling to teach. His dedication to his students and his craft shaped countless young lives over the decades. After retiring from teaching in 1997, George embraced a second career as a beloved school bus driver, continuing to serve his community with the same kindness, patience, and steady presence that defined his life.

George met the love of his life, Marlene, in 1987, and the two were married in 1992. Together they built a home filled with laughter, faith, and unwavering devotion.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 5:00 PM at Hayes Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation from 4:00 to 5:00 PM.

George is survived by his wife, Marlene; his children Shawn (Indianapolis, IN), William (Anderson, IN), Nicole and her husband AJ (Greenfield, IN), and Natalie (Elba, AL); and his eight grandchildren: Lily (Tempe, AZ), Christopher (New Jersey), Caleigh (Elba, AL), Ava (Greenfield, IN), Luke (Cincinnati, OH), Rosemarie (Indianapolis, IN), Memphis (Elba, AL), and Nova (Elba, AL).

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie, and his brother, Tom Hookey.

George leaves behind a legacy of love, perseverance, and quiet strength. To those who knew him, he was the best of men—steadfast, generous, and deeply devoted to his family and community. His impact will continue to live on in the many lives he touched.
