The Messer family matriarch, Geraldine Messer, age 103, of Elba, Alabama, went to meet her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 10, 2026, at her home in Elba surrounded by loved ones. She was affectionally known as “Granny” to everyone that knew her.
Mrs. Messer lived in Lake Placid, FL before moving to Elba in 2002. She was an avid fisherwoman. She absolutely loved fishing every chance she got. She also loved her animals, taking in every stray she found. She was a kind, caring, loving person that will be deeply missed by her family & friends.
Funeral services will be held at Hayes Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 10:00 AM, with Bro. Adam Carlee officiating. Committal services will follow in the Whitewater Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Hayes Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM.
Mrs. Messer is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Aubrey) Gilbert of Elba, AL; her sons, Roger (Ann) Messer of Elba, AL; Jerry (Tamara) Messer of Elba, AL and Daughter-in-law, Valerie Messer of Stuart, FL. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren, each representing the generations she lovingly nurtured and guided.
Mrs. Messer was preceded in death by her husband, Preston Franklin Messer; son, Preston “Junior” Messer and a Great Granddaughter, Madison Gilbert.
Mrs. Messer will be remembered for her remarkable longevity, her devotion to family, and the steady grace with which she lived her life. Her legacy continues through the many descendants who carry her influence forward.
