Gwendolyn B. Spinks, age 89, of Elba, Alabama, departed this life on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Elba Rehabilitation and Wellness Center in Elba.

Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Kevin Krist officiating. Visitation will be held at Hayes Funeral Home on Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM.

Affectionately known as “Gwen” and “Nanny” to those closest to her, she was a vibrant and spirited woman who brought joy wherever she went. She loved dancing, family gatherings, and being the life of the party until her health no longer allowed. Her warmth, humor, and lively personality created memories her family will cherish for generations.

Mrs. Spinks is survived by her daughter, Tangie (Jody) Sasser of Elba, AL; her grandson, Cody (Tiffany) Sasser of Elba, AL; her granddaughter, Harley (Earl) Jacobs of Glenwood, AL; and her great‑grandchildren: Preslee Grimes of Glenwood, AL; Gunner Jacobs, Colt Jacobs, Brody Jacobs, and Remi Jacobs, all of Glenwood, AL; Brayden Ellison, Kayleighan Ellison, and Alleyann Ellison, all of Elba, AL. She is also survived by her brother, Harold Owens of Samson, AL. The Spinks family would like to take this opportunity to thank the nurses and staff of Southern care Hospice for the care and kindness shown them and their mother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Spinks; her father, Tup Owens; her mother, Ruby Lee Dorsey Owens; and her brothers, John Edward Owens and Charlie Franklin Owens.

Mrs. Spinks will be remembered for her joyful spirit, her devotion to her family, and the love she poured into each generation that followed her.
