Albert Harold Dyess, 91, of Elba, AL passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Serenity South Troy. Harold was born to Jesse Albert Dyess and Mabel Scarbrough Dyess.

Harold was a native of Elba and had known his wife, Mary Agnes, also an Elba native, since middle school. The two of them married in 1951 and started a family, while Harold served in the Air Force and graduated from Troy State. Eventually, they moved to Atlanta, where Harold worked in the insurance industry throughout his career. Following that career, Harold and Mary returned home to Elba where he farmed cattle until a few years ago.

Mr. Dyess was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Sara Sharpless and Deborah Jayne Dyess, and his brother, Joe Tom Dyess of Jacksonville, FL.

Mr. Dyess is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mary Agnes, and his two sons and their families: Albert H. (Robin) Dyess Jr. and Joseph Rugg (Laura) Dyess, as well as 4 grandchildren (AJ, Jack, Jessica, and Heather) and 2 great-grandchildren (Michaela and Truly).

A graveside service will be held Friday, January 19th at 2pm this week at Evergreen Cemetery, under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home of Elba.
