James was born on
February 26
, 1945 in Elba, Alabama, where he remained for his entire life. He loved Jesus, his family, and Alabama football. One of his greatest joys was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They could bring a smile to his face even on his most difficult days and he delighted in being their "Paw Paw".
James' family will always remember his strength and his fighting spirit, as he stood against the increasing challenges of a progression of lung disease. While in the hospital, his doctor asked him what he expected or hoped for in his recovery. James responded, "All I have wanted was to see my children come to know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior, and I've seen that. So I am good with whatever happens." James trusted in this life being but a temporary home, and he could often be heard saying "God is good all the time, and all the time God is good!"
