Mary Nell
Brantley
Sep 25, 1939 — Jan 30, 2026
Mary Brantley, born on September 25, 1939 in Newton, Mississippi, went home to be with the Lord on January 30, 2026 with her daughters by her side. She was 86 years old.
Mary met her husband, Billy E. Brantley, Sr. in Meridian, MS and they were married on December 30, 1954. Mary was a devout Christian and member of Bethany Baptist Church in New Brockton, AL, an exceptional wife of a retired US Army Veteran of 56 years and a very loving and understanding mother of five children. She loved Jesus with all her heart and couldn't wait until the day she would meet Him. Her love for Jesus was instilled in her children and wanted nothing more than to have them all meet her one day in Heaven. As a member of Bethany Baptist Church, she served as a ladies Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Director and the Church Librarian. She was very active with Women's Aglow in Enterprise, AL and served on the board while living in Hollywood, FL. She loved reading books, doing word searches and taking care of her yard using the gift she got from God of having a green thumb.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Billy E. Brantley, Sr.; her parents, JB and Lennell Davis; her in-laws William A. and Mary Lou Brantley; her son, Billy E. Brantley, Jr.; and her brother, Charles Davis. She is survived by her daughters Judy Knight (Jim), Donna McDurmont (Kent), Denise Thomas (Gaylon) of New Brockton, AL, Debra Schubert (George) of Calhan, CO; her daughter-in-law, Laurie Brantley of Plant City, FL; her sister-in-law, Linda Davis of Anniston, AL; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and one (1) great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Hayes Funeral Home in Elba, AL, who will also direct the services, on Thursday, February 5, 2026. Funeral services will be held at Bethany Baptist Church, New Brockton, AL on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 10:00 am with Brother Corbin Griffin and Brother Greg Cotter officiating. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery.
Pall bearers will be her grandsons, Ryan Brantley, Kyle McDurmont, Eric Thomas, Justin Thomas, Trey Knight, Clint Schubert, Curtis Brantley and her great-grandson, James Downing.
In lieu of flowers, and we all know Mary loved her plants and flowers, she has requested that donations in her memory be sent to Bethany Baptist Church, 1805 County Road 533, New Brockton, AL 36351.
