Miriam Walls Parker 94 of New Brockton, AL departed this life peacefully & joyfully in her sleep on June 2, 2025. Funeral services will be held at Hayes Funeral Home Chapel in Elba on Monday, June 9, 2025 at 11:00 AM with Michael Mynatt officiating. Committal services will follow in the New Home Cemetery in Basin. Visitation will be at Hayes Funeral Home on Monday, June 9, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
Mom was born in Coffee County Alabama to Wilbur Walls Sr and Bessie McCall Walls on October 16, 1930. She graduated from New Brockton high school and achieved a teaching degree from Troy State teachers' college in 2 1/2 years. She married the love of her life Hollis Parker after college. Dad was in the Air Force and his assignments took the family to many places (England, Kansas, Missouri, Guam, Illinois) before the family returned to Alabama.
She was a wonderful teacher and had a teaching career spanning four decades in various schools from Flomaton, Guam, Missouri, and Illinois until returning to Coffee County and teaching at Elba. After retirement, she taught Sunday School at Hillcrest Baptist Church and volunteered in the library. Mom's greatest joy was in her sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a teacher to all of us.
Mom was proceeded in death by her husband, Hollis Parker, her parents, and her siblings Wilbur Walls Junior, Elaine Walls Thompson, Betty Walls Barr and Johnny Walls. She leaves behind her Sister - Martha Walls Claussen, Panama City, FL ; sons Mark Louis Parker (Deborah) of Charlottesville, Virginia, Geoffrey Howard Parker (Katherine) of Birmingham, Alabama, grandchildren Geoffrey K. Parker of Birmingham, Megan Parker Meadows (William) of Birmingham, William Hollis Parker of Birmingham, and great grandchildren Jacob Andrew Meadows, Emma Kate Meadows, and Nora Claire Meadows, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
