Renita Bozeman, 66, passed away peacefully at her home on May 21, 2024.

Once, when she was 16, a man rode up on a horse and told her she was "prettier than a speckled puppy sitting under a red, red wagon in the sunshine." He wasn't wrong. She was Scarlett O'Hara on the lawn of the barbecue. She held court. She had a suitor or two.

She never met a stranger, was going to be your new best friend, whether you like it or not. She loved a good story. The making and the telling. And a good joke. The making and telling. She loved. Fiercely.

She was a champion of downtrodden, bent every rule the Department of Human Resources (DHR) had to do it, usually to breaking. She never cared much for rules, valued morality over ethics.

After leaving DHR, she became an esthetician, where she loved making her clients feel beautiful, special, and pampered. She had a magic touch.

She was Mama to Constance "Conny" Cooper, Chelsea Cooper (Gavin Mauldin), BeBe to Cora Mauldin, Farris Mauldin, and Adelaide Mauldin, and surrogate Mama to her nephew, James Weldon Greek.

She is also survived by her sister, Rhonda (Bozeman) Brunson, and sister-in-law, Lynne Norman Bozeman, as well as her nieces Sydney (Brunson) Johnson (Jason Johnson), and Shelby (Brunson) Omainsky (Hunter Omainsky) and Jessica Louise Bozeman.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Louise Bozeman, father, Weldon Bozeman, brother, Robin Bozeman, sister, Rachelle Bozeman Greek, brother-in-law William "Bill" Brunson and by Bancroft Cooper Jr.

A celebration of life will be held at The Rabbit Hole, 216 Factory Avenue, Elba, Alabama, 36323, at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024. A jazz second line and light refreshments will follow. And it will be a celebration, fitting of her.
