Richard Wayne "Ricky" Haywood age 68, a resident of Elba, Alabama passed away unexpectedly Saturday, June 8, 2024 at his home. Funeral services will be held at Hayes Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 beginning at 11:00 AM. A graveside service will follow at 5:00 PM in Tallasahatchee Cemetery near Sylacauga, Alabama, under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home. Visitation will be at Hayes Funeral Home on Monday, June 10, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Ricky was a native of Talladega where he graduated high school, and later pursued a degree in Pharmacy from Auburn University. As fate would have it 46 years ago, Ricky accepted an assignment from his employer, HARCO Drugs, to operate a new location in Elba. After a few years serving in that capacity, he decided to take the leap and go out on his own and established Haywood Discount Drugs. Ricky served the needs of his customers and relished in the friendships established during that time. He later decided to continue his service to the community by being elected Mayor of the town of Elba. He truly had the heart of a servant and continued to help others until his death. Ricky and Wayne enjoyed spending time together at their home in Panama City Beach, Florida, and remained active in their local church there.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Dorothy Wayne Haywood, Elba, AL, step-daughter, Robbie Pennington, Enterprise, AL, step-son, Charles O. Drummond, Birmingham, AL, and step-son, Carl Ray Drummond of Enterprise, Alabama. He is also survived by seven step grandchildren, nine step great grandchildren, along with a sister, Becky Byrd, Harpersville, AL, and brothers, Tommy and Frank Haywood both of Talladega, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bessie and Lenard Haywood, a step daughter, Karen Dale Renda, along with a brother, Mike Haywood.
