Ted
Fillingim
Apr 14, 1949 — Sep 23, 2024
Jack
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ted Fillingim of Jack, AL. He passed away peacefully in his home on September 23, 2024 at age 75.
Ted was a beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, and friend who touched the lives of many. Ted was a hardworking man who loved the land and watching peanuts, cotton, corn or anything else grow. He had a fun-loving spirit and never met a stranger. Though he was as tough as steel, underneath was a heart of gold. Ted showed great strength and courage as he fought a long, hard battle with Parkinson's which eventually took his life.
Born April 14th, 1949, to a long line of farmers, Ted had to learn early on about hard work and dedication. He spent seven years in the National Guard and later graduated with a master's degree from Troy University. Ted spent many years working in the school system, but his real passion was found on a tractor.
In his spare time, he worked as an auctioneer and coached girls' basketball at Zion Chapel School. He loved mentoring to his players and became a father-figure to most. His other hobby included mullet fishing on the Alabama River.
Ted is survived by his wife of 31 years, Melissa Fillingim. He is also survived by his sons, Troy Fillingim, Hayden Osborn; daughters, Kelsea Fillingim McDonnell (Dusty McDonnell), Heather Fillingim Walden (Walt Walden); five grandchildren, Kaelyn Fillingim Hill (Rance Hill), Ridge Walden, Stetson McDonnell, Maisyn Clare McDonnell, Wilks McDonnell; great-grandchildren, Flint Ellzey, Troy Taylor Hill, Gaston Hill; three sisters, Judy Dismukes, Diane Smith (Wayne), Janet Bass (Ronnie); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Artelma (Whitehead) Fillingim.
Funeral services will be held from Victoria Baptist Church on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Donnie Marler officiating. Committal services will follow in the New Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be at Victoria Baptist Church on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
