Tommy
Dewberry
Apr 28, 1950 — May 11, 2021
Tommy Glenn Dewberry, 71, of Elba, Alabama passed away on Tuesday May 11th peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, May 17th, at Hayes Funeral Home with full military honors graveside. The visitation will be held at 10 A.M. with the funeral at 11 A.M.
Tommy was born on April 28 th , 1950 in Elba, Alabama. He graduated from Elba High School, and shortly after met his sweetheart Novelle Dewberry, while tossing a football on the old town square, hanging out at the Big R. He then continued his education at Livingston University, now the University of West Alabama.
Most family and friends associated him with a love of golf, a love of the Elba Tigers, and a love for Auburn University. Most importantly, however, Tommy served our country fearlessly as a career soldier in the Alabama Army National Guard. Many knew that his gruff demeanor and military devotion often spilled over into his everyday life, even in retirement. Always ready to give an order, and win every battle, the only orders he ever took these last few years were those from his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He actively served both during Desert Storm and Enduring Freedom.
Tommy "Daddy Tom" Dewberry was also a devoted family man, who is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Dewberry of Elba, his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Wendy Dewberry of Pell City, Destiny and Chris Hudson of Elba, his grandchildren, Olivia and Daulton Bowers of Pell City, Lauryn-Elizabeth Dewberry of Pell City, Tanner Hudson, Kate Hudson, and Hillary Hudson of Elba and two great-grandchildren, Audrey Dewberry, and Miles Thomas Bowers, both of Pell City. He is also survived by one brother, Steve and Tonda Dewberry of Victoria, and two sisters, Pansy Smith of Elba and Judie and Steve Edwards of Temple Georgia and a host of nieces and nephews.
Tommy was preceded in death by a wife, Novelle Dewberry, his parents, Jim and Susie Dewberry, two brothers, General Dewberry and James Dewberry, one sister, Nina Allen, and two nephews, Joe Smith and Lee Dewberry.
Hayes Funeral Home will be serving the Dewberry family.
